- Abstract
Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) are commonly associated with pre-neoplastic mammary lesions, but they are rarely found in young animals. The aim of this study is to describe the macroscopic, histopathological and immunohistochemical findings of a case of DCIS and ductal hyperplasia without atypia (DHWA) in a 5 months-old feline. The DCIS differed from DHWA because they presented greater proliferation index, mitotic figures, moderated anisokaryosis and bridges and pseudo-lumens formation. The CK34ßE12A expression allowed the confirmation of the ductal origin of both lesions. The expression of p63 and ASMA in myoepithelial cells helped to confirmation of in situ lesions. Given the findings we may suggest the existence of a progression of precancerous lesions to neoplastic lesions in feline mammary gland and it's early occurrence of this event, in this specie, should be investigated.
