The author defines biomonitoring as the measurement of a chemical, its metabolite or reaction product in biological matrices like urine and blood products. She mentions the goal of the American Chemistry Council's (ACC) Long Range Initiative to find out how to best interpret biomonitoring data and utilize it to its fullest extent.
