- Abstract
The article discusses the reluctance of podiatrists to fit diabetic shoes for their patients. Topics include the lifetime risk of a person with diabetes developing a foot ulcer, recommendations to streamline the documentation procurement process required to prevent ulceration in patients by getting shoes prescribed by doctors of podiatric medicine (DPMs) to certified pedorthist (CPed), orthotists and pedorthists (O&P), or certified shoe fitters, and roles and responsibilities of a podiatrist.
