- Abstract
The emergence of Mexico as a country of migratory transit should be placed in the 1940s. But it is during the first two decades of the 21st century, where the volume of migrants of foreign origin who crossed the country reached unprecedented dimensions, generating humanitarian emergencies, great unrest in the political agendas of governments and many tensions regarding rights. humans. The objective of this contribution is precisely to examine the evolution of these flows, in a unique period, marked by the health crisis caused by the COVID19 pandemic, the economic situation on a global scale and failed policies. This is an exploratory diagnosis, which is based on documentary sources and aggregate data from the Monthly Bulletins of Migration Statistics, issued by the Ministry of the Interior of Mexico. Among the relevant findings are the intensification of the flow of migrants who transited through the territory of Mexico and the state of Zacatecas and the diversification of places of origin. The gradual feminization of migration at the national level was not reproduced in the one that crossed the entity. The synergies between structural imbalances, the undermining of economies, and the ineffectiveness of policies have made migration a truly uncontrollable event.
