- Abstract
The article discusses a study comparing transcatheter edge-to-edge mitral valve repair (TEER) to isolated mitral valve (MV) surgery for severe mitral regurgitation (MR). The study found that TEER had lower cardiovascular mortality than MV surgery at a one-year follow-up. However, the article points out potential biases in the study, such as the inclusion of only the "worst" surgical candidates and the lack of distinction between primary and secondary MR. The limited follow-up period may have favored TEER initially, but the mortality risk in the TEER group increased after three months. The article suggests that longer-term follow-up may yield different conclusions.
