- Abstract
In order to explore the effect of persulfate (PS) combined with nitrate to remove gasoline contaminants in karst groundwater, a box-column experiment was conducted in this study, in which Sodium persulfate was used for chemical oxida⁃ tion and nitrate was used for enhanced biodegradation under water-flowing and -static conditions. The results showed that the effect of aromatics removal under water flow conditions was insignificant and the use rate of nitrate reached 70%, when the injected concentration of PS was 20 g/L. 61% aromatics was removed within 2 days at the removal rate of 6.9 mg/(L·d), when the injected concentration of PS was 250 g/L. Moreover, the removal rate of aromatics increased to 10.3 mg/(L·d) under the followed water-static conditions, which presented better removal effect. However, the use of nitrate was insignificant with the high injection concentration of PS. Meanwhile, PS oxidation led to the increases of the content of HCO3 - and Ca2+, and limestone hindered the decrease of pH value. This study suggested that PS combined with nitrate has potential in the remedia⁃ tion of groundwater contaminated by gasoline, and the injected PS concentration needs further study.
