The effects of diphosphonates on alveolar bone loss.
- Authors
Schmidt, Lori J.; Rowe, Dorothy J.
- Abstract
The article offers information on a dental research conducted in order to determine the impact of diphosphonates on alveolar bone loss. For the research, twelve male and six female rice rats were divided into three treatment groups. Following 12 weeks of treatment, the rats were killed by an overdose of carbon-dioxide. The research has revealed that the bone loss scores of the rats treated with diphosphonates were lower as compared to rats in the control group. It has been discovered that diphosphonates are effective in reducing bone loss associated with periodontal disease.
