- Abstract
The article presents information on contact dermatitis from Fremontodendron. Fremontodendron is a genus of 2 species belonging to the family Sterculiaceae. F californicum and F mexicanum are native to southwest North America. The dermatitis in these patients studied by the authors was irritant, in view of the strong reactions in all 10 controls. The leaf and stems of the plant are covered with coarse, hooked hairs. These are shed copiously on contact and doubtless cause a physical irritant contact dermatitis. The authors are not aware of any other reports in the literature of adverse cutaneous reactions to this genus.
