- Abstract
Rhodium is a metal belonging to the platinum group and ruthenium triad. It is extracted from natural platinum and derives its name from the pink color of some of its compounds. It has a very high melting point. A 47 year old goldsmith cleaned and degreased pieces of metal and rhodium plated them in an electro-galvanic bath. For about a year, he had contact dermatitis on the sides and back of his fingers and on the front of his wrists. This dermatitis was chronic and recurrent, improving when he was off the work.
