- Abstract
The thoracic duct is the biggest lymphatic trunk of the body that transports the mayor part of the lymph. The knowledge of the outlet anatomic variantS is impodant to prevent the results of the clinical-pathological consequences of invasive procedures in the cervical-thoracic region. With the aim to determine the frequency of thoracic duct anatomic variants, we did a retrospective and descriptive study in 50 human corpses at the Human Anatomy Department at the University of Los Andes. Under neck and mediastine dissection, we explored the outlet thoracic duct sites. We observed 82% of the thorax duct outlet at the jugulosubclavian vein merge 8% y 6% on the internal jugular vein and left subclavian vein, respectively, and finally 2 cases (4%) on the left external jugular vein.
