- Title
Swimming Upstream: Comparative Effectiveness Research in the US.
- Authors
Greene, Jeremy A.
- Abstract
The author comments on comparative effectiveness research (CER) in the U.S. medical care sector. He notes that CER is meant to help clinicians and patients compare relative real-world values of therapeutic alternatives. The author discusses the place of CER in policy, an overview of CER related to drugs, and ways to help CER succeed. The author believes that CER promises an improvement in the ability of medical care providers, patients and health systems to make better decisions to improve quality while controlling cost.
