- Abstract
The article offers information on the National Toxicology Program (NTP), established in November 1978 by Joseph Califano in the U.S. It is mentioned that the plan was revealed on August 10, 1979. The nine-member executive committee for NTP comprises of representatives from regulatory and research agencies involved in toxicological testing and control. It is informed that the report lists 12 chemicals selected for teratology studies, 12 others "nominated" for teratology studies or screening for teratogenic effects, and 225 selected for Salmonella mutagenicity assay. The plan also enumerates those chemicals now being studied for behavioral or neurological effects, for carcinogenicity via lifetime bioassays.
