- Abstract
The purpose of this article is to use metaphors to understand the trajectory of Brazilian executive women in the job market. The authors researched three metaphors that represent obstacles that hinder or exclude women from leadership positions: Concrete Wall, Glass Ceiling and Labyrinth. From the concepts presented by Eagly & Carli (2007), Hymowitz & Schellhardt (1986), and Dohadwala (2012), the authors developed a script used in in-depth interviews with six executive women. The main obstacles these women face are family responsibilities, discrimination in the workplace and lack of mentoring in their careers. Results pointed, in the Brazilian context and interviewees, despite the existence of a Labyrinth in the rise of women to leadership positions, they less perceived this metaphor. Therefore, results suggest the combination of the concept of Labyrinth of Barriers with Glass Ceiling, denominating the metaphor Glass Labyrinth.
