- Title
UNAIDS Report: AIDS Epidemic Slowing, But Huge Challenges Remain.
- Authors
Kuehn, Bridget M.
- Abstract
The article focuses on a report by the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), which argues that increased and sustained spending will be required to maintain the global progress against AIDS. Paul DeLay, director of monitoring and evaluation for UNAIDS, says that the global response to AIDS needs to shift from an emergency response to a long term management strategy. National strategies to prevent AIDS are discussed, as well as cultural barriers to effective AIDS prevention. Women's rights issues and sexual workers are discussed, as well as appropriate sexual education for children.
