- Abstract
A descriptive profile of the essential oil black pepper is presented. Black pepper, whose botanical name is Piper nigrum, has a strong spicy smell, and is extracted by steam distillation of pepper corns. In aromatherapy, black pepper is used as an antioxidant, antibacterial agent, anti-inflammatory agent, antifungal agent, and antiviral agent. Constituents of black pepper include beta-caryophyllene, limonene, and alpha-copaene.
