- Abstract
The article discusses the concept of post-intensive care syndrome (PICS), which refers to the physical and psychological challenges that some patients face after receiving emergency care in intensive care units (ICUs). The outbreak of COVID-19 has brought attention to this topic. The article responds to a comment from Dr. Mumaw regarding the mental health impact on family members of ICU patients during the pandemic. The authors acknowledge the need for further research to explore the complexities of PICS, including individual differences, treatment methods, and potential genetic and environmental factors. Understanding PICS can improve patient recovery and resource allocation in healthcare systems.
