The article discusses the challenges that the author faces in her efforts to earn a living as a graphic artist and illustrator in America as of 2015, and it mentions U.S. copyright protections, the nation's 1976 Copyright Act, and the legal aspects of works made for hire (WMFH). Pay rates and contracts involving transfers of rights are examined. The legal aspects of the Internet are assessed in relation to free speech, free expression, and access to free art and other material.
