- Abstract
The article reports on the ANDRILL international project which had drilled the final core from the Ross ice shelf in the Antarctica on December 26, 2006, setting a record for drilling depth. Thick layers of a greenish rock interspersed throughout the core was found in the preliminary analysis. The Ross ice shelf is the largest in the world. A description of the drilling method used by ANDRILL is presented. The challenges in the study of the core ice are discussed.
