- Title
Mansfield Park and A tale of Two Cities as Historical Texts.
- Abstract
This paper examines Charles Dicken's A Tale of Two Cities and Jane Austen's Mansfield Park using the New Historicism approach. These novels were written during the French Revolution, Industrial Revolutions and the American Independence war. However, they carry different issues about the society of that time. Each writer criticizes various matters which they have experienced during their life. This study reads the two novel as authentic historical texts to view the historical stories that influenced each writer and the hidden meaning in each one.
