- Abstract
The present volume, contributed by seventeen prominent scholars in the fields of philosophy, linguistics, and literature, is the first book-length study exclusively dedicated to the various ways argumentation and language are related. Chapter 3 is devoted to the grammatical phenomenon of complementation (a pair of subordinated subject and object clauses to indicate a source of information, e.g., ' I X said i / I claims i / I believes that P i ') in the analysis of political discourse. Chapter 10, by Marcin Lewi'nski, tackles the largely neglected issue of practical argumentation in deliberative discourse and examines the discursive means especially typical linguistic markers that produce practical arguments in this real-life deliberative discourse.
