- Abstract
The article focuses on a study which determined the effectiveness and tolerability of 10 to 20 mg/d escitalopram, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor, in alleviating the frequency, severity and bother of menopausal hot flashes. The women used in the study were given 10 to 20 mg/d of escitalopram or a matching placebo for 8 weeks. The mean daily hot flash frequency was found to be 9.78 at baseline. Study findings indicated that the use of the drug compared with placebo resulted in fewer and less severe menopausal hot flashes at 8 weeks among healthy women.
