- Abstract
The article presents a study which examines the surface dust on the ice, also known as cryoconite, in the dark region in the ablation zone of the Greenland ice sheet. The study analyzes the composition and origin of cryoconite using the microscopic and geochemical techniques. It is found out that the high level of precipitation and the low level of melt rates in the dark region cause the dust to be enriched in trace and minor elements in the atmosphere.
