- Abstract
The article studies the life of Catholic nuns of the Order of Saint Clare (Poor Clare Sisters) in the region of Aragón, Spain through an examination of archival records from the Franciscan Convent of Santa Clara de Borja in the province of Zaragoza, Spain. It describes these records as consisting of dispatches from provincial religious authorities with instructions on the adoption of changes brought about by the Council of Trent during the mid-16th century and other disciplinary norms. These dispatches exerted detailed control over all aspects of convent life, whether religious, economic, or administrative, according to the article.
