- Abstract
Five cases of obliterative peripheral arterial disease occurring in Negroes are presented. Two of the cases are father and son. Histologic examination in four of the cases revealed arterial and venous thrombosis with intimal proliferation. There was involvement of both upper and lower extremities. Gangrene or ulceration was present in all five, requiring amputation of a toe or leg. The symptoms were those common to all occlusive peripheral arterial diseases of the extremities. Clinically they resemble thromboangiitis obliterans, except for the absence of thrombophlebitis and the characteristic histologic picture.
