- Abstract
This article presents the results of an environmental science research on the efficiency of three aquatic macrophytes, namely, Juncus effusus or soft rush, Ludwigia peploides or yellow primrose, and Leersia oryzoides or cutgrass, in mitigation and removal of nutrients such as nitrate, ammonia, and orthophosphates from run-off water in Mississippi agricultural drainage ditches. The Ludwigia peploides trough had the lowest ammonia and nitrate concentrations in water. Leersia oryzoides was found to be least efficient in removal of ammonia and nitrate concentrations.
