- Abstract
Objective: In this study, it was aimed to investigate the protective and therapeutic effects of ozone (O3) on the changes in liver tissues of rats treated with carbontetrachloride (CCl4). Material and Method: Forty 8-10 weeks old Spraque Dawley rats were used in the study. Experimental animals were divided into 4 equal groups. No application was made to the control group during the experiment. During the experiment, O3 group received 150 µg/kg/day ip O3 3 days a week. CCl4 group was given ip CCl4 2 days a week at a dose of 2 mg/kg throughout the experiment. CCl4+ O3 group was treated with CCl4+ O3 throughout the experiment. At the end of the experiment, the rats were decapitated. After decapitation, liver tissues were rapidly removed and used for histopathological reductions. Results: CCl4 exposure caused an increase in TUNEL apoptotic index and hepatocyte damage in histopathological evaluations. O3 given for antioxidant purpose did not cause significant changes compared to the control group, but it caused an oxidant effect in the liver of the rats in the CCl4 exposed group, contrary to what was expected. Conclusion: More studies are needed on the use of antioxidants against CCl4 toxicity of O3, both in dose concentration differences and in numbers.
