- Abstract
The use of resources with productivity (efficiency, effectiveness, quality and economy), should be the object of use in the agricultural sector. An analysis of the economic situation of marginal costs, income, and utility producers with 40, 100, 200 and 500 cows from the system cow-calf, in four major areas producing the State of Chihuahua. The data were analyzed with the simulation program MEXSIM, used by SAGARPA to analyze the main systems of agricultural production in Mexico and developed by Agricultural and Food Policy Center (PSAC), The University of Texas A & M (TAMU). The economic situation was precautionary for all scales of production, due to low rainfall, which caused the decrease in forage and weaned calves. However, 100% of the analyzed production units are profitable; however, it is variable between scales of production and increases to larger-scale production. The average marginal utility was $1,656.82 per cow, $115.18 per ha, $2,563.41 per weaned calve and $ 16.34 per kg of calf. The production system shows an inefficiency of 32%, caused by smaller-scale producers.
