The article discusses the impact of the April 15, 1912 sinking of the steamship the Royal Mail Ship (RMS) Titanic on the city of Southampton, England. It comments on the deaths of several crew members, including storekeeper Cyril G. Ricks. The author also reflects on the survival of chairman of the White Star Line J. Bruce Ismay and the death of his secretary Ernest Edward Samuel Freeman, who is buried in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
