SEX, INTIMACY LEVEL, AND SEX COMPOSITION OF RELATIONSHIPS AS FACTORS IN INTERACTION INVOLVEMENT.
- Authors
Miura, Steven Y.
- Abstract
One important dimension of communication competence is interaction involvement. This construct refers to "the general tendency for an individual to demonstrate both attentiveness and perceptiveness in interactions" and is based on the extent to which his/her consciousness is directed toward the self and toward the immediate other. Consequently, when individuals are highly involved, they relate inner feelings, thoughts, and experiences with objects and circumstances of the immediate social environment. There is also an association between communication behavior and intimacy level of interpersonal relationships.
