- Abstract
Using controlled recombination with a multiply marked chromosome, homozygously lethal and sterile second chromosomes were tested for half-chromosome homozygous viability and sterility. The spectrum of half-chromosome homozygous viabilities resembles that of whole chromosomes, with one mode at lethality and one mode somewhat less than the viability of heterozygous controls. One of 42 lethal chromosomes proved to be an Interarm synthetic lethal, In which lethality depended on simultaneous homozygosity of both the left and right arms. A male-sterile chromosome recomblned to form female-sterile chromosomes.
