- Abstract
When inspecting surfaces by means of light microscopy, it is important to pay attention to the correct positioning of component parts, because microscopes, for the most part, only have a very small depth of field. Component parts with curved surfaces always require focusing to obtain well-focused images. This article presents a simplified focusing method for microscopic measurements. The proposed setup only requires a microscope lens, a fixed focal length lens and a variable focal length lens. By means of this setup it is possible to purposefully change the axial focal point. This article describes how the correct positioning of components makes it possible to reach a constant magnification factor and field of view when adjusting the axial focal point. Furthermore, the article evaluates various algorithms for the automated focusing related to the proposed setup on microstructured surfaces.
