- Abstract
Several variants of Spitz nevus have been described, which include pigmented spindle cell nevus, pigmented epithelioid cell nevus, desmoplastic Spitz nevus, Pagetoid Spitz nevus and atypical Spitz nevus. Among these, pagetoid Spitz nevus is characterized mainly by intraepidermal proliferation of large epithelioid melanocytes with a predominant pagetoid distribution. This variant needs to be recognized to avoid confusion with malignant melanoma.
