- Abstract
The article discusses an ecological approach to the prevention of dental disease as well as models which demonstrate the pervasiveness of factors in the total environment of children in relation to their oral health. The first model is a five-factor conceptualization of the local primary etiological factors affecting health within the oral cavity. The second model describes the ways in which the individual child imparts to his own oral condition, and another model represents an expanded view on factors affecting oral health. Lastly, a model on community factors refers to the study of dentistry that has been used to entail a localized settlement unit where the practicing dentist lives and fulfills his professional role.
