- Abstract
Carbon footprint (CF) accounting for organizations has received a great deal of attention in the recent years. Business organizations across the world have come to realize that carbon saving activities can translate into real cost savings as well as in arousing awareness amongst the employees and customers about its benefits. In this paper we make an attempt to find out the performance of an Indian industrial unit as a case study, given the paradigm shift to sustainable development in the carbon constraint world through environmental management practices. This paper calculates the carbon footprint for a paperboard and paper production industrial unit (the unit under consideration is a pioneer in the manufacture of a wide range of specialty papers in India) in India for the year 2008 -09. This is b.ased on the production of 23,828 MT of output of specialty and tissues paper. From the calculation of the value and analysis of results of carbon footprint we can say that this footprint results helps in communicating information on the environmental impacts to the business and to the public at large. The results obtained by using these new performance footprint indicators also provide an assessment of the production units environmental impacts over time and in developing an assessment of sustainable limits for the case study unit.
