- Abstract
A study of the activity patterns of microchiropteran bats at a cave roost in south-west Madagascar is presented. Madagascar has at least 28 species of chiroptera. The survey was conducted in the dry season, prior to the mating period, when prey availability is limited. Hence, female bats feed for longer periods to maintain their fat levels prior to reproduction. The article concludes that while the bats are threatened by habitat loss, a thorough study of the ecology of these creatures could help establish and manage international conservation plans.
