- Abstract
In civil construction lean methodology, or lean construction, aims to maximize the use of materials and make the most of available manpower. This research adopts the ProKnow-C systemic revision method in order to identify the tools, contributions and difficulties encountered by the construction industry in the use of lean methodology. Such method analyzes a portfolio of articles that represent the state of the art on the use of lean by civil construction. The portfolio analysis was carried out through five research lenses: the sources of waste in construction, the obstacles in order to the implementation of the methodology, the tools used, the advantages of implementing the methodology and the quantitative analysis of the improvement that the application of the lean manufacturing carry out in the construction industry. Through the analysis of the portfolio it was concluded that the most present sources of losses are: rework, inefficient executions and waiting periods. The main barriers to the application of the methodology are: lack of knowledge of the technical staff and the absence of communication between the teams. Among the tools presented the most applied are: total quality management system and adoption of visual management systems and the advantage of applying the methodology is the increase of productive efficiency. It is also noticed the absence of scientific works that quantitatively portray the improvement that the application of the tools of the lean methodology brings to the construction site, which shows an opportunity of future research.
