- Abstract
By capturing a real-time estimation of vehicle speed, a more accurate emission factor (gkm-1) for oxides of nitrogen (NO SB x sb ) can be calculated for each vehicle on a road link. Total emissions for a road link are, in turn, calculated from the emission factor and the number of vehicles using the road link. Therefore, by using the simple relationship between speed, distance and time, averaged across each link/segment, it was possible to calculate the average speed of vehicles per road link for every hour. The speed-related and vehicle-specific emissions factors were then multiplied by the number of vehicles of the respective class to obtain the total NO SB x sb emissions per road link (gh-1).
