- Abstract
A preliminary survey was developed in Tapachula, Chiapas, to identify the types, causes, consequences, materials, and frequency of chemical accidents in the South of Mexico in both transportation and fixed facilities. Information from accidents attended by the Fire Department of Tapachula from 2002 to 2010 was collected and recorded onto a standard coding database, and was subsequently analyzed through HAA (Historical Accidents Analysis). It is found that chemical accidents are an important social and health problem in the study area, causing significant damage to human health, property, public infrastructure and environment.
