- Abstract
The article reports on the Software Engineering 2004 (SE2004), a curriculum guideline aimed at equipping undergraduate students in choosing a career in software engineering in the U.S. The SE2004 is part of the Computing Curriculum project of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc. in an effort to provide guidance to colleges and universities in designing an effective undergraduate program curriculum in software engineering. The document includes an overview of the software engineering as a discipline, an outline of the principles involved in the program and the expected outcome after implementation. Furthermore, it provides recommendations on the kind of knowledge that the schools should teach, pedagogical guidelines, sample courses and curriculum patterns. INSET: Comparing SE2004 to SWEBOK.
