- Abstract
The article analyzes the aesthetic, formal and ideological features of three stop motion animation short films filmed by Rita Basulto, Karla Castañeda and Sofía Carrillo in Jalisco between 2012 and 2017. Each filmmaker shows a different perspective in their work, but with a wealth of elements in common, such as the design supported by different pictorial traditions. Their short films also include characters who are not beautiful in a conventional way, but have been described as dark beings living in gloomy atmospheres. The methodology used in this article is based in the neoformalist analysis and highlights the relationship with fantastic cinema in each short film.
