- Abstract
Magnetorheological fluid (MRF) seal technology is proposed to deal with the air leakage of circular cooler based on its adjustable Theological properties and controllable yield stress under external magnetic field. MRF is regarded as Bingham fluid with its magnetic force and yield stress expressed by mathematical functions. The 3D numerical simulation results show that MRF with good pressure resistance is in a dynamic equilibrium state in nonmagnetic seal groove and presents unsteady swirl flow obviously due to the volume force at the right-angle edges of the two permanent magnets nearby nonmagnetic separator. It means that the air leakage of circular cooler can be solved effectively with the MRF seal method which Is also proved by the experiment.
