An update on calf diarrhoea Part 1: Pathophysiology and treatment.
- Authors
Lorenz, Ingrid
- Abstract
The article presents an update on calf diarrhoea, its pathophysiology and treatment in Ireland. It notes that neonatal calf diarrhoea is a multifactoral disease which remains the most common cause of death in young calves. It is said that the most commonly found enteropathogens in faecal samples are rotaviruses and cryptosporidia in which the main goals of treatment are to replace fluid and electrolyte losses and to provide energy to help the calf survive the episode of diarrhoea.
