- Abstract
The article provides information on the benefits of using an age-adjusted D-dimer cutoff for patients over 50 years of when examining for venous thromboembolism (VTE). It mentions that the benefit to use age-adjusted cutoff is the ability of excluding VTE in several patients while not increasing the amount of missed VTE. It states that the advantages of an age-adjusted cutoff are most noted with the application of enzyme linked fluorescent assays due to the higher sensitivity of the assays.
