- Abstract
The authors reflect on various issues concerning colony collapse disorder (CCD), a condition characterized with the rapid disappearance of adult bees from colonies that have brood and food stores but do not have damaging levels of parasitic Varroa destructor mites of Nosema microporidians. They explain the significance of honey bees to the ecosystem. They also argue that the increasing number of colony mortality can be attributed to various factors.
