- Abstract
This article will examine the connection between philosophy and culture, by discussing the role philosophy can play in the renewal of African culture. African culture has been undermined by years of slavery, colonialism, neocolonialism and recent globalization, and necessitated by development in science and technology. The article therefore discusses the nature of philosophy, its contribution to society development and its role in cultural renewal in Africa. Our conclusion is that there is an urgent need for cultural renewal in African thought, values, and life and that philosophy can contribute to this renewal through conceptual analysis of the principles, values and theoretical framework of African culture and the norms and values by which they live. In this paper we look into The Nature of Philosophy, Inter-Relationships Between Philosophy and Culture, A Way Forward Towards Cultural Renewal In Africa, Materialism And Gender Issues In African Culture, Cultural Healing And Transformation, Conclusion, and Recommendation.
