- Abstract
The article offers information regarding the sleep apnea syndrome. In sleep apnea, breathing ceases for periods of over 10 seconds throughout the night. The syndrome can affect people of all ages but is probably more common in obese male snorers. Sleep apnea in the elderly has much similarity with apnea in the postoperative period. Prolonged central apnea was found exclusively in pre-term infants during the course of upper respiratory infections.
