- Abstract
The article discusses how amyloid β2-microglobulin is modified with imidazolone, a novel advanced glycation end product, in dialysis-related amyloidosis (DRA). It demonstrate that amyloid β2-microglobulin in DRA is modified with imidazolone, a novel AGE, and that imidazolone-modified β2-microglobulin is also detectable in the plasma of HD patients. The association of imidazolone may be specific for β2-microglobulin-amyloid, because imidazolone is not located in the other forms of amyloid.
