- Abstract
Our case further broadens the clinical presentation of SCA21, starting with upper extremities tremor, at first mimicking ET, followed by focal hand dystonia, suggesting a dystonic tremor, according to the new consensus statement on the classification of tremors [5]. [1] for their excellent recent publication titled "A NGS-Based Analysis on a Large Cohort of Ataxic Patients Refines the Clinical Spectrum Associated With SCA21", in which they present four new families of Italian and Libyan origin with spinocerebellar ataxia type 21 (SCA21) and discuss the wide phenotypic diversity of this disease. In this setting, the possibility of cerebellar cognitive affective syndrome should also be considered among spinocerebellar ataxia patients, although findings are not consistent, and patients with SCA21 may not have cognitive impairment.
