- Title
The Ironical Exclusion of Women from Harvard Law School, 1870-1900.
- Authors
Kimball, Bruce A.; Shull, Brian S.
- Abstract
The article explores the history of the exclusion of women from the Harvard Law School (HLS). It discusses the memorandum composed by Christopher Columbus Langdell on September 30, 1899 which lists eight reasons against educating women at HLS, including the issue of HLS being able to keep its numbers in manageable limits. The authors link their research to cultural issues about the Victorian move toward more masculinisation and competition in legal education.
