Language of Terror.
- Authors
Hicks, June H.
- Abstract
The article reports on the proposal to create a National Linguistic Reserve Corps in the U.S. The proposal was made by James Bamford, the author of books about the National Security Agency. The Corps would be tasked to search for individuals who speak less commonly spoken languages that government agencies might need. The government lacks translators in languages such as Arabic and Pashto which caused criticisms during the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Bamford suggested to recruit for linguists in colleges and certain ethnic communities.
